Cancel Sky TV, save over €500 a year and still get great channels

I was paying out approximately €45 per month for my Sky TV package, this was money I could no longer afford to pay with my salary slashed in the recession.

So I called them up to cancel. I was eventually successful after sitting through the begging of the sales person to not leave and offering me all sorts of delights (all of which were going to cost me money of course).

I then had the conundrum of what to do with the Sky boxes I had in the house. Following some internet searching I discovered that, if you take the Sky card out of the Sky box and reboot then you get all of the Freeview UK channels.

Now for €0 per month I am able to watch BBC, ITV, Ch4, E4, More4, Sky News and a host of music channels. This was a great discovery for me as I am in Ireland and we only have 6 channels at present!

I genuinely can not think of a single channel I have missed that I am not still able to receive.

My kids have been able to view all of their favourites on the free channels and through YouTube, so if they're happy then I'm happy!
