MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO EXERCISE

If I am looking for motivation in life, I always turn to books.

For me, a non-fiction book is an opportunity to learn from someone else's life without having to live that life yourself and make their mistakes.

There are hundreds of thousands of self help / motivational books out there and it's quite difficult to narrow your scope to the right one so in this post I'll just recommend the one book that got me off the sofa and onto the road.

That book was 'Who Dares, Runs' by Gerry Duffy. I am not affiliated with Gerry in any way, his book just inspired me.

It is the story of a man who went from being 50lbs overweight and smoking 40 cigarettes a day, to eventually running 32 marathons in 32 days.

While this is clearly a superhuman accomplishment, what I take most from the book are his experiences in beginning his journey.
He's a man approaching middle age who decides to leave the comfort zone of the TV and the sofa and take up running.

As soon as I started reading the book, I myself started running and trying to leave my comfort zones. You learn a lot about yourself when you push yourself to achieve things. I began to find running enjoyable, the sense of accomplishment after finishing a run is immense, and I'm talking about 1 or 2 miles here. It doesn't have to be a marathon, every accomplishment is relative to each individuals circumstances.

What I like most about the book is that it is an autobiography of an amazing achievement. It is not a motivational book and you will not find it in that part of the bookstore.

The story itself is one of inspiration and that in turn encourages you to be like the author and see what you can achieve when you get off the sofa for an hour to help yourself.

The great thing is you can always return to the sofa, but this time you'll be much happier and you will have earned your rest!

Thanks for reading.
